Judo
Judo is primarily a grappling art and focuses on throws to get an opponent to the ground. Judo, like wrestling, centers around controlling an opponent and improving position through transitions. Our head instructor, Eryk Zaczek, is a 4th dan black belt in Judo. He incorporates superior position to either control or submit your opponent.
Judo is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. The object of Judo is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or by executing a choke.

Judo training at AKA has students wearing a heavy gi on a floor with padded mats. A typical class involves 15 minutes of warm ups and conditioning followed by 20 minutes of teaching
and practicing technique with a willing partner. The last 25 minutes is live sparring against an opponent of equal skill in an attempt to work on technique learned that day and other techniques taught in previous classes.
